The influence of the second degree of freedom on the peculiarities of thread pendulum oscillations

We investigate the influence of the second degree of freedom of a thread pendulum on the deviations from simple pendulum model. It is found that this factor has less but comparable effect than the non-linearity of the oscillations, especially at the low angular amplitudes for which the experiments are usually performed. Therefore, this correction should be added to the set of corrections to the oscillation period of simple pendulum while determining the precise value of the local gravity acceleration.
